Yes, in consideration of being allowed to participate and/or volunteer in any way with Epic Days Foundation programs, related events, and activities - all volunteers and participants will be required to sign a waiver when checking in at registration. The waiver can also be found on our FORMS page on our website.
Volunteers at the age of sixteen (16) can volunteer without the supervision of a parent or guardian. Younger children are welcome to volunteer alongside a parent or guardian, however, volunteer roles may vary based on the parent’s or younger child’s ability to focus and perform specific volunteer roles. We ensure our volunteers are set up for success to help provide an epic and fulfilling experience for themselves and participants during the event.
Yes, absolutely! Many of our first-time volunteers have not had the opportunity to work with the special needs community. Luckily, you will have the support of our Epic Days Staff and seasoned volunteers who will be happy to provide training, guidance, and support when needed.
Being a Beach Buddy is not for everyone and we understand that. Fortunately, we have an abundance of other roles such as assisting with registration, managing the sign-up list at an activity venue, assembling goodie bags, delivering water and sunscreen to anyone who is in need, setting up or serving lunch, and organizing equipment and supplies.
We welcome capable surfers to join our water team! If you feel you have both the skills and fitness level required to not only catch and ride waves, but also help participants pop up and surf while standing on a tandem board, then please contact Chris Martin (chris@epicdaysfoundation.org), our Epic Days Foundation Water Team Lead. We will evaluate your readiness and ability to safely perform the roles needed to be on the water team.
Dress comfortably – most volunteers dress in beach attire, shorts, pants, sneakers, sandals, bare feet. All volunteers with receive an Epic Days Foundation t-shirt to keep and wear during the event.
Consider bringing sunscreen, a towel, and a change of clothes, considering that you might get wet, sweaty, and/or sandy. Coffee, water, snacks, and lunch will be provided for you, but feel free to bring anything else you’d like to drink or eat.
When you’re not playing with your buddy on the beach, your role will be to cheer on your buddy from the shoreline. There are circumstances where you may get to participate in certain activities alongside your buddy, but for the most part the activities are meant for our participants.
Please reach out to info@epicdaysfoundation.org to request a Volunteer Service Hours Report.
